Family Affairs

Well. I’m struggling with this one.

Define:

There are some words people throw around without precision, without really knowing or caring what they’re saying. Some of these words are far more serious than others, and this list is by no means exhaustive. But I thought it was worth starting said list, to which you are free add those that particularly irk you. [READ MORE]

We're Just Influential People...

Here is a Sporcle quiz for you. This list was presented on A & E way back in 1999, when people were making this kind of list for every possible thing. If you follow the link, you’ll have 14 minutes to guess whom this cable channel (and their panel of historians, theologians, etc) chose as the 100 most influential people of the millennium (the one that just ended, not the current one). Blind Spot

There are some things I think I know a fair amount about.

Baseball. Some literature. Geography (to a point). Scorsese movies. Random other pop culture and trivia-related info.

There a few other things I would hardly consider myself an expert on but that I’m learning more and more about every day. [READ MORE]

The Name, The Chop, And The Masc

This is a bit of an epic, so bear with me, and clear yourself some time before you dive in.

The Name:

Most sports teams have silly names. There are a few that are either appropriate or cool – I will tip my cap to the Tampa Bay Rays, and they need to bring back the Washington Bullets – but most of them range from the anachronistic – you’re not in New Orleans anymore, Jazz; I’m looking at you, too, Lakers and Dodgers – to the just plain lazy – Texans is the best thing you could come up with, Houston? Really? [READ MORE]
